02 / Our approach
Know what’s in your ritual.
Two formulas, built around micellar retinol.
Full Potency pairs micellar retinol with botanical oils, oat protein and vitamin E. Sensitive Formula combines it with a simpler cream base and added aloe.
Avocado, grape seed and sunflower oils give Full Potency its emollient blend. Glycerin helps retain moisture, alongside calendula, aloe, hydrolyzed oat protein and vitamin E.
Sensitive Formula combines micellar retinol with a simpler cream base and added aloe vera liquid extract. The aloe extract also brings glycerin, a humectant that helps attract and retain water.
A form of vitamin A, used in both night crèmes within a micellar carrier.
02 / Emollients
Botanical oils
Avocado, grape seed and sunflower oils are part of the Full Potency base. This emollient blend helps soften the feel of skin.
03 / Humectant
Glycerin
Glycerin helps attract and retain water. It is present in the Full Potency base and also enters Sensitive Formula through its aloe liquid extract.
04 / Formula distinction
Aloe liquid extract
Aloe is part of both formulas. Sensitive Formula includes additional aloe vera liquid extract in water and glycerin.
Ingredient roles explain the composition of each cream. They are selected highlights; refer to your packaging for the complete ingredient list.

Why the carrier matters
Why micellar retinol matters.
A micellar carrier gives oil-soluble retinol a place within a water-containing formula.
Micelles have an oil-compatible interior and a water-facing exterior. Retinol can sit within the interior while the outer surface interacts with the surrounding water. This helps bring retinol into a cream without relying on it to dissolve in water.
01 Water-compatible exterior
The outward-facing regions let the carrier disperse in water, supporting incorporation into water-containing skincare.
02 An interior that can carry retinol
The inward-facing regions accommodate oil-soluble ingredients. This can increase the amount of retinol held in an aqueous preparation.
Apply a small amount to clean, dry skin in the evening, avoiding the eye area.
02 / Introduce gradually
Make room for a routine.
Begin Full Potency twice per week, or Sensitive Formula once per week. Increase frequency only as tolerated.
03 / Listen to your skin
Care continues by day.
Retinol can cause dryness, redness or flaking. Reduce frequency or discontinue use if irritation occurs. Use sunscreen during the day.
For external use only. Do not use on broken or irritated skin. Keep out of reach of children. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
A little clarity
Your retinol ritual, explained.
Compare the formulas, explore the ingredients, and learn how to start.
How do the two retinol night creams differ?+
Full Potency brings retinol together with a rich cream base containing botanical oils, oat protein and vitamin E. Sensitive Formula pairs retinol with a simpler cream base and added aloe vera liquid extract. Compare both formulas to get to know their ingredients.
What does micellar retinol mean?+
Retinol is oil-soluble and does not readily dissolve in water. Micelles can accommodate oil-soluble retinol while interacting with surrounding water, making the ingredient easier to incorporate into water-containing skincare. Explore the formulation rationale.
How do I introduce Cleān Slate into my evening routine?+
Start with a small amount on clean, dry skin in the evening, avoiding the eye area. Begin Full Potency twice a week or Sensitive Formula once a week. Increase frequency only as tolerated, and use sunscreen during the day. Read the evening directions before your first application.
What should I know if my skin is sensitive?+
Skin responds differently to retinol. Sensitive Formula has a different cream base with added aloe liquid extract, but both formulas can cause dryness, redness or flaking. Introduce gradually, and reduce frequency or discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Are the ingredient highlights the full ingredient list?+
The highlights introduce the ingredients that give each formula its character. They are not a complete ingredient declaration. Refer to the ingredient list on your product packaging before use.
Can I use these night creams during pregnancy or breastfeeding?+
Cleān Slate retinol night crèmes are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
